As an icon of power, the design was a common hierarchical metaphor in ancient Egypt not only because it showed the power of the laity by placing many bricks along the bottom, but the power of a single ruler by placing only one brick along the top. Needless to say, the world is more democratic now — no need for tyrannical rulers or forced enslavement when the relationship can be more time. With a solid plan, you can build your own pyramid, one that can stand tall for thousands of years.
You may have small leadership duties, such as watching after your own children or taking care of a few plants around the house, but in the grand scheme of things, the degree of your leadership success is solely dependent on what it is you want in life. It only takes a moment to change, and you can do it today if you simply demand what it is you want in life. If you want to be your own boss, be your own boss. If you want to start making more money, demand a raise.
There are many characteristics that can be helpful in becoming a leader, but only one stands out to the point that it becomes an asset — finding followers.
In order to build your empire, you have to have a few helping hands, which is a good way to think of employees as. See each person you hire not only as a friend, but an investment in your company, allowing you to make bigger and brighter choices for your future. You can also utilise this rule in terms of finding people to lead — see each customer as an investment.
Stay focused and make what you really want not only a hobby, but something you can live off of. By nature, followers are more cautious than bold. Leaders combine big dreams and action; they leap into situations where both the payoff and the risk are substantial.
Followers watch and take notes; they move more slowly. You're not high in self-confidence. Leaders tend to be decisive, opinionated and self-assured. Followers are more likely to see limits in their abilities and put more faith in the judgments of others.
You're not particularly results-oriented. Leaders like to have a definitive plan and a blueprint for getting results--a bridge between goals and accomplishment.
Followers like to have clear instructions that allow them to focus more on their individual corner of big picture. You favor a scattershot approach over focus. Successful leaders are all about discipline, focus and getting things done. Followers are more comfortable with distraction--they're skilled at putting things down and picking them up again later. You're not communicative. Leaders are often good speakers and patient listeners who enjoy bringing people together and motivating them.
But at what level do you lead from? Within business, I've found that there are multiple tiers of business operation and leadership.
Although all of them are key to building a strong business , there is one that you must aim for. If you are an entrepreneur with the goal of massive success, you must become a true leader. That said, here are the three tiers of leadership and how you can grow from one to the next with the goal of reaching true leadership.
At this tier, no one does what you do better and you have a very niche skill set or knowledge base. Followers are necessary and are often the vital component to driving a company forward. But if you want to move beyond this level, you must find ways to broaden your role and your expertise. When I started my first business, I had to grow my knowledge based on every facet of the business. Sure, I had a strong engineering background, but I needed to understand how marketing worked, how the supply chain functioned best, and how to establish a solid customer service sector that truly aided my audience.
By applying my curiosity and ability to learn fast, I grew from knowing one thing very well to knowing many things broadly. To move beyond tier one, you must step into these unfamiliar areas of business with a strong caliber of communication.
